Inspired by his mates building hotrods and customising cars, Bob began his welding journey back in 1962 with a sheet metal work apprenticeship at Manly Welding Service. 

Over the years, he gained invaluable experience and precision at respected workplaces, such as left-hand-drive car conversions at Bill Buckle Autos and intricate custom one off jobs at Dependable Metals.

In 1980, Bob started Ballina Welding and Sheetmetal Services after he saw the opportunity to be own boss and fill the gap in the area. For 10 years he provided quality welding and fabrication services to the local community, through his extensive knowledge and craftsmanship.

In the early 2000’s Bob evolved alongside the industry, seeing a rise in online shopping and the demand for trusted quality welding supplies and consumables. Bob the Welder was started as a thriving Ebay store in 2006 sourcing and shipping products around Australia and the globe. 

Customers want to deal with someone that knows welding and fabrication, a niche knowledge that multinational companies cannot compete with. Bob has built quality relationships with manufacturers and his personalised advice is why so many customers return to his store.

Bob the Welder is a family owned and operated team based in Ballina NSW. It’s always Bob answering your calls and emails. When he is not packing your order, he’s an abalone diver, keen fisherman, and snorkeler, and enjoys spending time gardening and travelling in his caravan—often meeting new customers along the way.
